oprah, sometimes you're right, but this time you're wrong. tipping less to save money is a sign that you shouldn't be eating out. oprah, when was the last time you waited a table or served a drink? for your sake, i hope you're eating in for awhile. i hate to think what the cooks and service line will do to your food.

If you can’t afford to tip 20%, don’t eat out. End of story. If you’re trying to save money, fry a damn egg at home.

Seriously, is twenty percent the norm these days?  Call me an old skin flint, but I tip at somewhere between fifteen and twenty on the grounds that (last I heard) the goverment works in about a 12% tip into the “minimum wage” of waitstaff and allows employers to mark it down accordingly.  I’m not going to let Uncle Sam short change you, but, seriously, anything more and your boss should be giving you a better hourly wage.

Coffee and booze are $1 a beverage.  Even if someone gives me a drip coffee (in a locally owned coffee shop) they get a buck per drink.  Those things are friggen sacred.
